Simply get to checkout and you will see a reason for VAT exemption, fill out the boxes and the tax will automatically remove.
The Government requires those claiming VAT relief to fill out a simple form declaring the nature of their disability and/or chronic illness.
While we don’t require any written proof of your disability or a letter from your doctor, you should note that it is an offence to falsely claim that you or someone you’re purchasing an item for has a disability or illness in order to claim VAT relief. Similarly, it is an offence to claim VAT relief for a business unless that company is a registered charity.
What is VAT Relief?
VAT is a tax consumers pay when they buy goods or services. Individuals who are sick or disabled can claim for VAT relief on products which are designed to assist people with disabilities. Most of the products on our site will fall into this category, although check each product individually to be sure. This means that they can pay the retail price without paying the VAT as well.
Who is Eligible for VAT Relief?
In order to be eligible for VAT relief, the individual using the item(s) must be chronically sick or disabled or have a physical or mental impairment that is long-term and has a severe effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities. People who have a condition which doctors have diagnosed and treat as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes or Alzheimer’s disease, will also be eligible.
If you’re purchasing goods and you claim VAT relief on behalf of someone else, you will be asked to provide some personal details regarding the individual you are buying for when you reach the checkout. This can be self-declared by the purchaser using the form provided or you can provide the information over the phone.
What Else Do I Need to Know?
For the products on our site which have the option of VAT relief, there will be two prices. However, if the item does not have VAT relief, there will be just a single price.
Please note that if you or the person you are buying for are not eligible for VAT relief under the guidelines outlined by the HRMC, you will be charged for the full price. Shipping costs are not included in VAT relief and the change in price will be taken from the individual items you are purchasing, not from the overall cost of your basket.
Because VAT is an EU tax, it is not applicable to international customers. Therefore, if your billing and shipping addresses are outside of the UK, VAT will automatically be removed from your overall charges at checkout.
